Commissioned in the 16th century by one of the most important patrons of the Habsburg family, the castle served as the archduke's residence from 1563 to 1595. In the chamber of art and curiosities, find corals arranged in cabinets, turnery made of wood and ivory, glass figurines, porcelain, and silk paintings. In two rooms of jousting armor, you can examine the suits made for the archduke. Enter the Spanish Hall, a notable example of German Renaissance architecture, and look along the wood-inlaid ceiling and walls adorned with 27 portraits of Tyrolean rulers. Compare them to the paintings of Habsburgs in the upper castle portrait gallery.     For a rainy day we decided to go and visit Schloss Ambras, it turned out to be a good choice! Our children really liked the gardens and the knightsarmer. We enjoyed the paintings and the wonders...  more »

    Ambras offers a beautiful garden for a stroll, an amazing vollection of medieval oddities, from armour sets to glassware, a huge portrait gallery, as well as a spectacular renaissance era castle.  more »

    Nice little walk of approximately 1hr from the Wilton Church bus stop in Innsbruck or you can get another bus from the station out we preferred to walk. It cost €12 to get in for adults. Spanish Hall awesome. The armour and glass stuff and paintings also really good. Cafe worth a visit toilets are like out of a sci film food also good. The building and artwork, wow. Gardens also Definitely worth a visit.

    Beautiful place to relax and get away from the city even for locals. Not crowded in the evening and wandering the castle grounds is very relaxing. I was also particularly excited about the white peacocks.
