Housed in an ornate palace, Natural History Museum (Naturhistorisches Museum) features a collection of artifacts that has been growing for the last 250 years. Emperor Franz I Stephan of Lorraine is credited with beginning the collection in 1750. Today, the museum is home to about 30 million objects relating to earth and life sciences. The first floor is dedicated to animal life, with exhibit halls focusing on vertebrates, crabs, arachnids, insects, mollusks, and protozoans. In the museum's mezzanine, learn about minerals, fossils, dinosaurs, the earth's history, and anthropology. The museum is best known for its dinosaur skeletons and extensive collection of meteorites. Don't miss the Venus of Willendorf, the nearly complete skeleton of a Stellar's sea cow, an animal that has been extinct for more than 200 years. • I have never seen museums with so many different works. You will definitely not be bored when you travel with your child. 10 euros for free adults for children. It takes 2-3 hours to get fully detailed. There are so many galleries, so if you're interested in history, don't miss it.

  • Best place ever. I enjoyed it so much. Will definitely come back for the space section. Watching the Venus was a dream since I was little, and the collection of meteorites was incredible... also the dinosaur section, and the parasites section... and it all. It is a place to visit and spend time in so to really enjoy it. Highly recommended!!! (I am not a nerd I promise) Ok I am.
  • The museum is huge, you can easily spend half a day there, at a leisure pace. The building itself is gorgeous but it also has an extensive collection of items to look at it. It can become quite hot in the summer as there is no air conditioning inside. The tickets have moderate prices and it's worth visiting as a first time tourist in Vienna.
