The Hofburg, Vienna

4.6
#2 of 519 in Museums in Austria
Once home to Vienna's monarchy, The Hofburg gives a fascinating look into imperial life through a display of personal items of former Habsburg monarchs. Along with the historical museums, the palace--called the Vienna Hofburg--now houses the president of Austria and offices of the federal government. In the Imperial Apartments, you'll discover the apartments of Franz Joseph and his wife, Elisabeth. Visit the Imperial Silver Collection for a glimpse into the lavish lengths to which the monarchs went to entertain. You'll see about 7,000 relics of the imperial dining culture, such as exquisite kitchen linens, the imperial table, and ornate centerpieces. The Sisi Museum features more than 300 personal items of Empress Elisabeth. Through her parasols, beauty recipes, and death mask, you'll gain an understanding of this often-misunderstood monarch. • Beautiful place, beautiful palace, a must visit in Vienna. Austria is a really beautiful country and Vienna is a pearl of it. Every corner is breathing with history and historical events that took place quite some time ago. Hofburg is great and find time stroll around, through and inside this palace. I had amazing experience! Enjoy)
  • One of the main attractions in Vienna. It has a long history at its back and while it is full of tourists, don't let that stop you from seeing this beautiful part of the city. It is recommended to go in early, to avoid the tour buses that bring up groups of tourists throughout the day.
