Gobustan State Reserve, Gobustan

#1 of 9 in Things to do in Daghlig Shirvan Region
A national historical landmark and a World Heritage Site, Gobustan State Reserve preserves ancient stone relics, rock carvings, and mud volcanoes. Located on the Greater Caucasus mountain ridge, the reserve shelters more than 6,000 engraved images of prehistoric lifestyles, hunting, and animal and plant life, dating back between 5,000 and 40,000 years. Observe surrounding natural wonders where wild roses, figs, pears, and junipers grow among heaps of rocks and stones. Besides examining petroglyphs, you can also visit Gaval Dash--a large flat stone that produces a tambourine-like sound when struck.
