Gain an appreciation for the history of printing at Museum Plantin-Moretus. Housed inside the former residence and printing house of one of Belgium's great printers, the museum was formerly Plantin Press, where Christophe Plantin and Jan Moretus produced some of the country's earliest printed materials. The museum's history, as well as its collection of typography, has garnered it World Heritage Site recognition. The press itself opened in the 16th century and continued to function until the 19th century, printing texts and books as well as advertisements and art prints. You can discover some of the rare printed artworks in the print room exhibit. Presses and other tools of the trade are exhibited as if waiting to begin work the next morning. Rent an audioguide during your visit to get more insight into the exhibits on your self-guided tour. • Personally, I have not visited anything similar. Shocking experience. It has historical significance for this and is a monument of UNESCO, architecture (the edifice is wonderful), artistic (paintings of Rubens are exhibited) but, above all, the revelation of how the art of typography and the disposition of freedom of speech Influenced the course of the world. You will enjoy a museum that has natural beauty, knows you in detail the art of typography and lets you imagine how many great writings Pladin and Moryear decided to bring to light and the mood of the world. If you are observant, you will see a Iliad somewhere among the great rooms of the museum. Gift Shop wonderful, ticket reasonable. Take a half hour, don't rush.

  • The Plantin Moretus Museum, a World Heritage site, is absolutely extraordinary. It must be visited calmly, without haste, because it is very big and full of fascinating things, the ancient typography, the movable characters, the rooms of the family, beautiful pictures (also of Rubens), a beautiful and very rare clavichdo with three keyboards. It is perfectly felt the well-being that had come with great effort and work the family of typographers who left us a testimony precious and wonderful.

  • This museum was absolutely fantastic. I went into it with no idea of what it was about but was stunned by some of the info I read. It's about the history of the printing press in Belgium. I just have spent about 2.5-3 hours here! You are allowed up close to some really old interesting stuff and the building itself is a work of art too. Well worth a visit
  • It's really fantastic and historical museum. If you go to Antwerp, you should definitely visit there. This building was built a few century a go.
