Belfry of Bruges, Bruges

4.5
A symbolic landmark in Bruges, Belfry of Bruges represent a medieval bell tower in the historical center of town. The market hall and an inner courtyard stand behind the bell tower. Formerly home to the treasury and municipal archives, the bell tower now offers a view of Bruges from above. Climb the 366 steep steps to reach the tower's top and reap the reward of seeing the grid of canals from this vantage point. Listen to the 47 bells chime on the quarter hour as you hike your way to the top. The tower played a central role in the film "In Bruges." • It was very busy and not for the faint hearted. The steps were testing but the views wonderful. In fact the tower was better seen from outside I.e other tall buildings looking across the roof tops...  more »
  • Went here 4th dec 2019, visited the Belfort (but not inside only the grounds), walked round the powder tower, went to the christmas market in the Markt, had some lovely food off the market stalls...  more »

  • Not for the feint hearted, the climb to the top of very tight and steep. But once you get to the top the views are great and the history of the tower is amazing. There is a 50 person limit in the tower at anytime so you may have to queue to enter. We went at a quite time so no queues or getting stuck on the stairs going up or down.
  • Worth the wait to get up the Belfry. Great historical landmark, and rare insight into a functioning bell tower. The views are great from the top and it’s worth sitting in the drum room watching a 15 min tick over, and then heading up to see the next 15 min tick over in the top floor with the bells. Be careful on the stairs though, very narrow and not wide enough for people to go up and down easily at the same time. It was wet when we went and two people I saw slipped!
