Chung King Mansion, Hong Kong

2.1
#38 of 384 in Shopping in Hong Kong
Popularly known by backpackers as the cheapest accommodation in Hong Kong, Chung King Mansion also houses a mixture of restaurants, clothing shops, and foreign exchange counters. Shop in any of the three malls in the mansion for bargain prices, but the main arcade on the ground floor is the easiest to reach and browse. If you decide to sleep here, expect tiny rooms and hard beds with bathrooms shared by the whole floor. Rooms may or may not have air conditioning. Do not be surprised if police randomly check your identity for the cause of reducing drug-trafficking. • Low priced but too many people. A little bit dirty and crowded. The hostels are cheap. This place is better to visit than to stay in one of their hostels.  more »
  • You would probably either love this building or hate it (just like someone i knew back home who apparently quite disliked the idea of staying here). I first came to Hong Kong in 1990, if i am not...  more »

  • Be prepared for tiny rooms and beds, noisy environment, paying cash for your accommodation (even if you booked with a credit card) and waiting in a line for the elevators. If you are 190 cm or taller, consider another options or at least try to ensure a large bed. The only good thing about this building is the convenient location. The prices should be low as well, but that depends on the time of the year - for example during the Christmas and New Year holidays you will have to pay more.
  • Amazing location, lots of good food in the area and stalls downstairs. Elevator may take a while but definitely not as long as some people make it out to be. Definitely safe unlike mentioned online with police patrolling and plenty of people. Stayed in block A and room was a pleasant surprise too.
