Guia Fortress, Macau

4.2
Head up to the city's highest point to see Guia Fortress, a 17th century hilltop fortress. The fort and chapel were built between 1622 and 1638 during the times of Portuguese colonial rule, the buildings display a distinctly Iberian architectural style. The lighthouse here, constructed later between 1864 and 1865, was the first Western-style lighthouse in east Asia, and it offers extensive views of the city below. The whole complex forms part of the Historic Centre of Macau World Heritage Site, with its distinctive, well-preserved architecture and impressive frescoes. • This beautiful ancient fortress sits on a hill and is a beautiful building to be missed after a stroll through Senado Square and take pictures in front of the ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral, as the fortress is located not far from the ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral. The fortress itself was a relic of Portugal when it invaded Macao and was still preserved today.
