Shanghai Developemt Exhibition Hall, Shanghai

#5 of 99 in Museums in Shanghai
See a vast collection of art, documents, and other memorabilia of the city’s long history at Shanghai Developemt Exhibition Hall. Because the museum does not have a permanent residence, most of its miscellaneous treasury remains in storage, while only a small portion sees the light of day at locations such as the Oriental Pearl Tower or the Shanghai Library. From a total of 30,000 items in the museum's possession, more than half of them pertain to the city's modern history. Inspect many notable items including the wax figures, Gu Embroidery of insects, fish, and flowers made by Han Ximeng of the Ming-Dynasty. The museum also showcases a bronze cannon which belonged to the Qing Dynasty general during the First Opium War and an ancient Taiping Heavenly Kingdom coin. • The museum is very interesting. It's like walking the streets of Shanghai from the past to the present. On the right/left interiors and people (mannequins), and smells, and installations. You can see how the city has changed. We were in the evening, it was almost empty - but so interesting. Besides, it's probably the only museum in Shanghai that runs late into the evening. The rest close at 5 p.m. I recommend it.

  • In addition to the previously described I want to add a drop of my delight! The museum consists of separate rooms with wax figures representing the life of almost all professions of the city's early history, but... Almost everywhere the inspection accompanies not only the corresponding sound (sound of money, hammers, watches, etc.), but also smells (especially struck by the fish shop and pharmacy)... Be careful!!! Staff successfully disguised as wax figures, which causes visitors to squeal, fright and delight when moving!!! They allow you to go inside the interior and take a picture together... It's a very funny entertainment. We were in the morning, there was no pandemonium yet and the inspection turned out to be pleasant and quiet. I recommend this wonderful place to everyone.
