Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta), Xi'an

4.1
Listed as a World Heritage Site, Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta) represents a well-preserved structure originally built in 652 that serves as an important holy site for Buddhists. Considered a symbol of the ancient city, the building currently stands 64 meters tall (210 ft), but it underwent many restorations throughout history due to numerous earthquakes which repeatedly damaged its foundation and façade. As you approach the pagoda, notice how the brick exterior looks like a square cone. Inside, observe the walls engraved with statues of Buddha as you climb the twisting staircase and take in the panoramic view from the arch-shaped doors on each of the seven storys. If you wish to take a seat on the viewing platform, you'll need to purchase a ticket. • Beautiful place to visit in Xi'an. We enjoyed the cultural significance of the place, but we enjoyed the chance to watch, learn and practice Chinese calligraphy by a very patient and humorous instructor. We also bought some beautiful pieces of art from here. Definitely recommend seeing it even if you only have a short amount of time.
  • My mate Xuanzang popped in a visit and we climbed up to the roof and took a lit selfie. Definitely worth visiting because there are yummy food on each level which is worth the climb. I don't know about you guys but Xuanzang and I managed to jump off the roof and get saved by another buddy of mine Sun Wukong. Sun's friends are pretty lit as well and I think they are a pig-man and a bearded man wearing a large beaded necklace. We then went to a noodle shop nearby and got some Macca's. Xuanzang got a Big Mac and a large frozen Coke btw.
