Aitutaki's triangular barrier reef surrounds a turquoise lagoon of crystal clear water. Beneath the gently rippling surface you will find teeming coral, giant clams, and brightly colored fish in every hue. In the north corner of the almost-atoll is Aitutaki's main island, with a handful of dwellings, an old church, and some gigantic Banyan trees, where the islanders will regale you with song, dance, and storytelling. Dotted around the reef are smaller, uninhabited islets, their pure white sands fringed with swaying palm trees. Most well known is One Foot Island, said to offer the best views of the lagoon.
