Built on the site of the first-century Roman forum of Aix, the Roman Catholic Paroisse Cathédrale Saint Sauveur Aix-en-Provence is a French national monument. The house of the seat of the Archbishop of Aix, transformations to the church from the 12th century on are reflected in patches of Romanesque, Gothic and Neo-Gothic architecture. Take note of the bell tower, Roman columns, baptistery from a sixth-century Christian church, and the facade's four walnut doors. • Wonderfully preserved Cathedral built over various eras with different architectural styles on top of a Roman Forum. You can take tours in English and French of the cloister and I highly recommend it. It's also possible to see bits of the excavated forum underneath the church. This church is an excellent place to take a romantic walk or sit and read in peace. The weddings here are beautiful and it's never crowded no matter the time of year.
  • Beautiful old Cathedral in Aix. Worth seeing as part of a trip into the City. Make sure you have your camera.
