#19 of 79 in Things to do in Arles
Captured beautifully in a series of oil paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, Langlois Bridge was a drawbridge at Arles in France. It was one among the eleven drawbridges built by a Dutch engineer along the channel from Arles to Port-de-Bouc. That is why is assumed that perhaps it served as van Gogh’s inspiration, as it reminded him of his hometown. The channel is located on the Mediterranean Sea. "Pont de Réginelle”, better known by the keeper's name as "Pont de Langlois" was built to manage the traffic on road and flow in water. A replica of the Langlois Bridge, named Langlois Bridge (Van Gogh bridge), was made to honor the works that Van Gogh made of the bridge. The replica is now owned by the Arles tourist board. • Rode past here while doing the ViaRhona. There is a copy of VanGogh's painting to see how it appeared in his time (1888). The bridge has not changed since and it's nice to compare the then to the now. There is a more modern bridge next to it that many people take photos from. Worth a visit if you're in the area and an art buff.
  • Not easy to find but worth looking for. Visit this bridge and feel the history
