Palais des Papes is the biggest Gothic palace in all of Europe, with 15,000 sq m (50,000 sq ft) of floor space. This was the residence of the sovereign pontiffs in the 14th century, and is today one of UNESCO's world heritage sites. Visit the chapels, cloister, ceremonial halls, and the Pope's private apartments, decorated with priceless frescoes. The Musée de l'Oeuvre within the palace describes the development and history of the building. Palais des Papes Reviews
Une super visite, avec les tablettes, super pour les grands et les petits. Les visites virtuelles sont magnifiques, et permettent vraiment de découvrir le lieu à toutes les époques. more »A great tour, with shelves, great for big and small. The virtual tours are beautiful, and really allow to discover the place at all times.
Early morning is the best time to visit. The crowd is less and one can run through the place leisurely. The place is ruined a bit being so old and not kept up after the Pope left for Rome. But is larg... more »
A beautiful landmark to tour. The AR experience provided with easy to carry tablets makes it easy to imagine how the palace may have felt when it was inhabited and filled with dining guests. The stairs may be difficult for less mobile guests to navigate, but the grounds are still impressive even if you are not able to explore all of the nooks and crannies. There is a small coffee shop on the top providing a beautiful view and opportunity to rehydrate.
The AR experience was not something I enjoyed too much. I can see smaller children really enjoying it but I prefer to have a live tour guide. I found myself looking at the tablet more than the actual place. Unfortunately the castle itself was fairly empty as the AR was most of the exhibit. There were a few cool things to look at or read but not as much as I’d like. Wasn’t for me personally but I’m sure a lot of other people would enjoy it.
