Chateau de Caen, Caen

4.0
One of the largest medieval fortresses of Western Europe, Chateau de Caen was built in 1060 by William the Conqueror, who successfully conquered England in 1066. Along with all of Normandy, it was handed over to the French Crown in 1204. The castle saw several engagements during the Hundred Years' War and was in use as a barracks as late as World War II. Bullet holes are visible on the walls of the castle where members of the French Resistance were shot. • Nice, large castle down-town. Lots to do in the walls, and well maintained. Could have spent hours there.  more »
  • Good day looking around the museum was interesting and all had a good day exploring the exhibits. Most for them were also explained in English but not all.  more »
