Village de Chessy, Chessy

#41 of 56 in Museums in Rhone
Narrow streets and stone houses give Village de Chessy its distinct character, drawing visitors eager to escape big crowds thronging Rhone's more popular destinations. The village sits in the heart of the country, just 22 km (13 mi) from the provincial capital Lyon. Frequently overlooked by foreign visitors, the small settlement remains best known for chessylite, a type of semiprecious stone found in this area. Though it offers a very limited selection of things to do, the village provides an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside of lush vineyards, quaint churches, and centuries-old castles. Just a short drive out of the village you can visit a monastery designed by architect Le Corbusier, a pioneer of modern architecture. • Pittoresque church with a characteristic wooden porch says stripe. The village with the golden stone houses is worth a visit.

  • I liked the place thou it is designed in away that makes it uneasy to see everything in there while walking around. A lot of good stores and huge supermarket and verity of dining places.  more »
