Musee des Beaux-Arts, Marseille

3.5
Located in the right wing of the famed Palais Longchamp, Musee des Beaux-Arts represents one of the most prestigious museums in Marseille. While its galleries feature a variety of French artwork, they also boast important works by Italian, Spanish, and Dutch artists spanning several centuries. As you walk through the small but impressive collection, don't miss the grandeur of the building itself, designated a historical monument. The museum sometimes hosts special exhibits; check their website for the latest events. The parking in this area is notoriously difficult, so consider taking public transit here. Musee des Beaux-Arts is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , world travel planner Edition.

  • Well.. the palace looks great and worth seeing but this museum is not. Don't waste 6 euros and your time. The collection was rather small and not interesting except a few paintings. People working here are also inefficient. The guy checking possessions at the entrance kept talking and talking.. which made a long line out of only a few people entering. Go to a lot of other places in France or in Europe for decent quality painting galleries.
  • The collection of this museum spans but 3 centuries. The collection on display is not large, but coherent. It tells its own story. Other than the better known large museums of Paris, London, Amsterdam or New York, this museum is quiet. There no need to stand in line for hours to get in or to see a main piece of art. There were perhaps as many visitors as there were staff. What this museum does for you is give you the time and opportunity to enjoy art in an intimate way. Go and stand in front of a painting and study minute details, without being jostled by masses.
