Arc de Triomphe, Paris

4.6
#2 of 4,914 in Historic Sites in France
One of the city’s most famous monuments, Arc de Triomphe honors those who died fighting in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, and consists of four main sculptures. This location also marks the central spot where the avenues radiate out of Place de l'Étoile. See the names of French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Inside the monument, you can view a permanent exhibit conceived by artist Maurice Benayoun and architect Christophe Girault exploring the symbolism of this and other national monuments in regards to war and peace. Beneath its vault lies the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" from World War I. • I never went in but manage to take some absolutely fantastic pictures of this marvellous structure. Right in the centre of the city, he is an absolute delight for the eyes.  more »

This French is a bad copy, designed to evoke the grandeur of the Roman Empire by Napoleon after the Battle of Austerlitz. In Fact, the Arc de Triomphe is inspired by the Arch of Tito in the Roman Forum in Rome. But when you arrive at the top, on the balcony you can admire Paris, and this is a lookout, there is a beautiful panorama and from the point of view of Urbanistic is a gem, from here also depart the Champs Elysees. The French, rightly, are proud of all their monuments, while we Italians forget what wonderful we have in our house and of which we should also be proud...

  • Really recommend this experience! Not many people know this but you can go on the top of it and get a view of all of the city. There’s no queue which is great, unlike in the Eiffel Tower and the view is even better and what you see is explained in a map, which is really helpful. Really satisfied
