The peak of Montagne Sainte Victoire is called Pic des Mooches, and measures 1,011 m (3,317 ft) high. Paul Cézanne famously painted the mountain from his window. The limestone peak, dotted with coniferous trees, is a popular spot for hikers, trekkers, and campers. It can be chilly near the peak, so dress accordingly. We took the D17 from Aix, which runs along the southern edge. The weather was a bit rainy, and the mountain was sometimes shrouded in clouds, but there were great views from the stops along the road.
