Cimetières Militaires, Ranville

#20 of 97 in Historic Sites in Calvados
Must see · Cemetery · Tourist Spot
Pay your respects to the sacrifice of Allied soldiers at Cimetières Militaires, dedicated to those who fell in the early battles following the D-Day invasion in World War II. Visit the cemetery, fittingly located near the first town liberated by the Allies, which features neat rows of more than 2,500 graves. The neatly kept grounds feature understated headstones and crosses, including that of the first Allied soldier killed on D-Day. While most of the soldiers interred here hailed from Great Britain, there are also a sizable number from Canada and other Allied nations, as well as a German contingent. You can use the website to find a specific name or grave, if you wish. Add Cimetières Militaires and other attractions to your Ranville trip itinerary using our Ranville road trip app.
