Though appearing simple from the outside, Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste features a gilded wooden altarpiece that's so intricately carved, it's been declared a historic monument in its own right. King Louis XIV also married the Infanta Maria Theresa of Spain here, making the church a national historic monument, too. Wander through the church, parts of which date back to the 15th century, to see the many carvings. The altarpiece alone includes statues of 18 saints and representations of the Holy Spirit and God.     We walked over the harbour bridge after visiting the smaller 'Eglise Saint-Vincent' which is also worth visiting. However this church is on a much larger scale with a very impressive altar. The organ....  more »

    Beautiful Church. Incredibly ornate inside. Loved the story behind the bricked up entrance. Remember to put a euro in the box to light up everything inside...

    Wonderful church .was a great sight. Sadly people were taking photos inside. Which rather wound me up. Would go again hopefully more thoughtful people in there.
