The Grand Trianon (French pronunciation: [ɡʁɑ̃ tʁijanɔ̃]) is a château (palace) situated in the northwestern part of the Domain of Versailles. It was built at the request of King Louis XIV of France (r. 1643–1715), as a retreat for himself and his maîtresse en titre of the time, the Marquise de Montespan (1640–1707), and as a place where he and invited guests could take light meals (collations) away from the strict étiquette of the Court.Use our Versailles travel planner to add Le Grand Trianon and other attractions to your Versailles vacation plans.
The Grand Trianon is set within its own park, which includes the Petit Trianon (the much smaller château built between 1762 and 1768 during the reign of Louis XV).

Le Grand Trianon Reviews
after spending hours (literally) in the Palace it was wonderful to stretch our legs and take the walk to the Grand Trianon (and its gardens). If we hadn't been to the Palace we would have been in... more »
Each room was unique and some were quite vivid, it's a long walk from the main gate but was worth the effort. more »
Don't bother going there unless you want a nice walk under the trees. It is a bit of a walk. Very small and nothing much to see. They just furnished it old style gaudy furniture. They still could not fill the rooms, so they even put pool table in one of them. Statues are not old but recently made from making them in plastic molds. Paintings are some of big modern paintings, just as I said before to fill up the space. Gardens are nice, but not worth it if it is going to be a hot day. Stick to the main palace and the gardens.
Interesting contrast to the main palace, it puts the royals into a more human perspective. Not much furniture and decor as it was all sold off. Be aware it is a very long walk here. 8 euros gets you on the little train. 35 euros gets you a golf buggy for 4 or 5 persons.
