Considered a Notable Garden of France by the French Ministry of Culture, Les Jardins de Marqueyssac has 150,000 boxwood trees carved in groups of rounded shapes, such as flocks of sheep. Stroll through the romantic 19th-century garden along 5 km (3 mi) of walks, and view rustic structures, water descending from the belvedere and ending in a cascade, and much more. The garden is part of the 17th-century Château de Marqueyssac, built on cliffs overlooking the Dordogne Valley and continually updated until the second half of the 20th century when it was rarely occupied. Beginning in 1996, owner Kleber Rossillon restored the gardens and opened them to the public. Quel magnifique jardin dessiné au dessus de la Dordogne , pour nous l’un des plus beaux d’Aquitaine . A kind of maze of century-old hand-carved boxwood on a route of about 6 kms that leads you to a lookout that dominates the whole valley where you can see large castles like Beynac, Castelnaud, Fayrac, La Roque-Gageac. You will visit The Castle of Marqueyssac and we were lucky to see the new roof of lauses laid stone by stone. What an idyllic place. Very beautiful and great shop. Thanks also to the charming guide who accompanied us along the way telling us the story of this park. To do you will not regret it.
Beautiful garden on top of a small mountain next to a cattle. We were just lucky also to watch hot air balloons flying by. It was just magnificent to witness the contrast with XII cattle and 21st century technology meeting that day.
really good, need to keep kids close around cliff areas(although well fenced)! but they love hedged tunnels and exhibits. restaurant a bit of a wait for food but was nice.
