Safely stored away when the Allies bombed Frankfurt during World War II, the original furnishings from writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's family were later brought out to decorate Goethe House, the author's birthplace. The house was built in wooden-fronted medieval style in 1600. In 1755, Goethe's father completely remodeled it. The home was destroyed during the war but was rebuilt and opened in 1952. A magnificent staircase connects the floors: The top floor features an exhibit on the home's history and its residents; next, a floor with the room where Goethe likely was born, as well as his sister's bedroom; below that, a music room; and finally the entrance hall and kitchen. Consider using the audio guide as you tour the building. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Frankfurt trip simple and quick.

The reconstructed house of Goethe, objects and furniture originals saved before the 1944 bombs destroyed all but the two lateral walls. 7 euro entry for adults, discounted for youngsters and seniors and free for journalists presenting a valid press card. A cultural landmark of the humanity. Souvenir shops at the entrance and a nice coffee and tea terrace just after the corner when exit through the music shop.
A must see in Frankfurt this house preserved all furniture belonging to Goethe family, since bought by his grandmother Cornelia. You may see the desk where was created Faust as well as three levels rooms endowed with their old furniture, extraordinary pieces of art! A painting exhibition must be also seen, presenting paintings done during Goethe life in Germany and Italy! I fully recommend this wonderful house, extraordinary historical place!
