Trip Planner: Europe / Germany / Bavaria / Franconia / Middle Franconia / Nuremberg / Germanisches Nationalmuseum
Germanisches Nationalmuseum-- Germany's largest museum of cultural history--houses an enormous collection of German cultural and art objects from prehistoric times to present day. Some highlights include the Cloth of St. Gereon, the oldest European tapestry still existing, plus portraits and paintings by Albrecht Dürer and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Most displays contain text only in German, and the layout can be a little confusing. Regardless, the quantity and quality of the collection makes this worth a stop. Germanisches Nationalmuseum Reviews
Das Germanische Nationalmuseum ist ein sehr sehenswertes Museum in Nürnberg. Es befindet sich noch in der Altstadt; in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Hbf. Man sieht sehr viele Ausstellungsstücke von der Stein... more »The Germanic National Museum is a museum worth seeing in Nuremberg. It is still located in the old town; In close proximity to the Hbf. You can see a lot of exhibits from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages, the Bronze Age, the Ancient or Baroque. The exhibits include a large number of jugs, vases, plates, weapons and tools from the individual eras. In addition, knight equipment with helmets and related weapons of the time (morning star, axe, crossbow, etc.). The museum also houses a monastery with ancient tombstones and a monastery church. Old coins can also be admired. Other departments of this museum also include an Art Gallery and a Church Art Gallery. The ecclesiastical art gallery shows the birth, life, work and death of Jesus Christ. Really gorgeous. Another area shows old furniture such as cabinets, chairs but also ceramics and glass. You can also find old robes, picture carpets and Baroque garments. Interested visitors should bring a lot of time. You should allow at least 3 hours for the visit. Severely handicapped people receive a reduced price upon presentation of a severely disabled card. Credit card payment is accepted. A few parking spaces are also available for coaches and cars. The café in the house is also taken care of for the physical well-being. A visit is definitely worth it.
Thus is definitely a good place to spend some time and soak up the history. It has a church inside the museum. Very Nice. more »
Very beautiful place with a mixture of ancient, contemporary and prehistoric arts and handicrafts. You will not get bored visiting the museum halls enriched with vast knowledge in the field of arts. The regular visitor fee is 8 euros and is to be paid at the front desk. No bags are allowed inside and if you have any then it has to be kept in a separate locker room. The staff was friendly and informative. This is a highly recommended place to visit in my opinion.
Awesome mix of old and new history. The building encompasses more space than any I've been in, except perhaps the Smithsonian. Really great section on warfare, including tons weapons and armor from several periods, to include some pretty unique pieces that I had never seen. Highly recommend.
