Carbet Falls (Les Chutes du Carbet), Parc National

Waterfall · Nature / Park
Noted by Christopher Columbus in his 1493 log, Carbet Falls (Les Chutes du Carbet) tumble down distant volcanic slopes. Three spectacular cascades descending in size and elevation make up the falls, the second (and most accessible) of which reaches up to 110 m (360 ft). Follow the snaking path on a 30-minute hike to the cascade, which sits at 660 m (2,200 ft); here, you can also explore the many natural hot springs nearby. However, due to earthquakes in recent years, full access to the second fall is at present restricted. Only experienced trekkers should attempt the more challenging hikes to the first and third cascades, which nevertheless reward your efforts when you get there. Don't forget to bring water.
