Get to know the inner workings of a coffee plantation at Domaine de l'Habitation la Griveliere. Founded in the 17th century, the plantation boasts a long history of producing fine crops in the area. Coffee is not the only product grown here, however. Take a tour and identify trees like cocoa, banana, bread fruit, coconut, cinnamon, and vanilla. Learn about the hard work that goes into growing and harvesting the products, and if you choose a tasting tour, sample the produce of the plantation. Be careful when visiting, as the road is narrow, steep, and quite bumpy. Also be aware that the plantation only offers tours in French. • We visited the place today and we asked the association, located 10 mins before the plantation, that it is closed until 2020 for renovation. You can still see the place from the outside and there are....  more »
  • We drove up a narrow one lane winding road up the mountain through lush tropical greenery on a rainy day. The place has postings that it is closed until further notice.  more »

  • This is one of THE most outstanding and extraordinary places for those lucky enough to be able to visit the island of Guadeloupe. The massive investment and work undertaken to restore all the original equipment such as the water mill for the electricity needs of the coffee processing and the original drying beds under the Manor House has earned La Griveliere status of World Cultural Heritage and it is much deserved. As of this writing La Griveliere is the OLDEST coffee farm in the world and can trace continuous coffee cultivation on the grounds all the way back to the 1730-1740s and I cannot recommend a visit here enough, it's simply a mindblowing experience and for true coffee lovers it's better than Disney land for coffee aficionados. The facility will be closed for the general public in 2019 as the plantation undertakes major renovation work following the extensive damage from Hurricane Maria (late 2017) but write the management and ask for the possibility of a private tour.
  • It is closed for renovation until 2020! We found that out today. Tricky to drive there, narrow road with low visibility, amazing forrest-jungle view.
