Complete with a wooden roof and a floor made up of gravestones, The Oude Church stands as the oldest building in Amsterdam, aged over 800 years. Originally constructed in 1214, the church underwent several modifications in the following 400 years, eventually converting from a Catholic venue to Protestant one. Visit the building and explore its vaulted interior. Today the interior looks plain due to destruction during the Reformation; however, it still features several intricate stained glass windows and centuries-old organs. As you wander, examine the graves beneath your feet and you'll see the names of many prominent Amsterdam residents and statesmen, as well as the wife of the famed Dutch painter Rembrandt. Be sure to take a peek into the rooms surrounding the central hall, where you'll find displays of paintings and artifacts from the church. Went along early on a Sunday afternoon to look around, and it was relatively empty. Being quite cool inside, it was a lovely escape on a warm day and refreshingly not full of visitors. Fairly unsurprising, interesting old building, worth a look.
We weren't allowed in, because there was some exhibition. We wanted to see the church nothing more. The exhibition cost 10 euros, to my mind it doesn't worth this money. We managed to see many pictures of this exhibition and they weren't beautiful at all. I recommend to see it when there is no any exhibition.
