Panorama Mesdag, a large cylindrical painting of a seaside town, gives the viewer an impression of being inside the landscape. Stand atop a sand dune and observe villagers at work, fishing boats docked on the seashore, and houses in the distance. Along with the realistic painting style, the feel of the place is augmented by the sand and beach objects placed below the painting on hilly terrain, making the illusion more striking. The piece was completed in 1881 by Mesdag, his wife, and his student painters. Panorama Mesdag Reviews
For me this is something that every one should visit and experience when in the area. It is quite an achievement especially from that period. Very well done and maintained. more »
une belle découverte pour se faire une idée de ce que était la ville autrefois et des changements intervenus au long des années. c'est comme si on y était…. more »a great discovery to get an idea of what the city once was and the changes that have occurred over the years. It is as if we were there....
Awe striking! I've never seen any piece of art like this, and it is breath taking. It is not just the panoramic painting that you experience, but the exhibit itself. It truly feels like being on top of the dune at the beach. The moving lights, sounds, and even smell! Pictures cannot truly capture the artistic perspective and experience. The gift shop here has some very unique pieces not found at other stores. The restaurant is very small, so if a tour bus is coming through, you might as well just wait outside a bit like we did. It can get very packed, very quickly. The staff is fantastic and helpful. Truly a must see.
Absolutely mind blowing, the framed artwork is magnificent but the Panoramic installation is out of this world. Truely amazing. Furthermore, the artwork your exposed to immediately after the Panoramic experience serves up a memorable assault on ones senses. Recommended
