Originally built as a fortress by King Herod and now designated as a World Heritage Site, Masada National Park famously provided the setting for a Roman siege of Jewish rebels in 73 CE. The fortress, built atop a plateau in the Judean Desert, includes palaces, granaries, and a synagogue. According to the ancient historian Josephus' account, 960 Jews who escaped there during the Jewish-Roman War in 70 CE committed mass suicide rather than fall prey to their Roman captors. You can ascend and descend the mountain to tour the fortress either by walking a narrow steep path or by riding the cable car. A vista é incrivel! O calor é de rachar, então leve uma garrafa de água. A subida pode ser feita a pé (para os corajosos!) ou de bondinho. A trilha a pé fica aberta apenas até uma determinada hora por... more »The view is amazing! The heat is cracking, so take a bottle of water. The ascent can be made on foot (for the Brave!) or the tram. The walking trail is only open until a certain time on account of the heat. It is worth staying a long time in the fort exploring the region, has explanatory signs of the sites.
The site was incredible historical masterpiece. Although, the lady at the security gate where cars are let in yelled at us for using a Hebrew greeting at the gate saying “NEVER SAY HELLO AT A CHECKPOINT IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE UNLESS YOU SPEAK THAT LANGUAGE!” It’s a strange way to greet foreigners trying to be polite.
An impressive historical site. Tells the sad story of the last Jewish fighters against the Roman Empire. Great views
