Explore underground Italy with a visit to Grotte di Castellana, a cave system of inestimable importance for the world’s natural heritage. These limestone caves, discovered in 1938, are the country’s longest natural subterranean network of passages. The caves teem with a huge variety of native wildlife, and contain an extraordinary range of underground landscapes, with some of the world’s most astonishing stalactite and stalagmite formations. Inside these caverns, natural light streams in through the ceiling, filtering down into the darkness and creating curious visual effects, which change according to the time of day and the season. Don’t miss the so-called "White Cave," which is often described as the most shining cave in the world because of the whiteness of its alabaster walls. Guided tours are available daily, but be sure to check the official website for exact times before you make the trip. • It is simply the most beautiful representation of the passing of time, something that is created over the millennia and not something that is slowly being eroded. These caves are particularly suggestive and rich in fantastic games of nature. The most beautiful I have ever seen; And some of them I've visited around the world. My guides were well prepared and organized. Recommended a sweatshirt for the cool and the damp and non-slip shoes. Four stars because it's an ineffable wonder... That is to watch but not to shoot. You just have to remember it in your memory, or look at the other pictures on the Internet. You can't do yours. And why?? For the "Royalty"!! But de that?!?!?! After €16 ticket (deserved and well spent) miss a photo? Oh, no! I would organize differently since it is a good of all!

  • We bought the tickets and came back in the afternoon. We managed to do the guided tour even with a child of 18 months (of course always in arms) to go up there are some comfortable lifts that in a few seconds bring up. Lovely place in the middle of the earth. I remember that the last visit of 10 years before the guide was more engaging.

  • Magic place with very good guided tours. Even during summertime, when the place is crowded with tourists, guides take time to provide visitors with insightful information. Be aware that you should wear long sleeves and pants in the summer too, as it is humid and might be chilly as you descend underground.
  • Very beautiful. Although we had not realized that you must walk through with a guided tour. The group's can be big and noisy. But definitely worth the visit. Bring good walking shoes.
