Piazza della Signoria, Florence

4.8
The beating heart of the city's political life since the 14th century, photogenic Piazza della Signoria is lined by modern cafes and packed with Renaissance sculptures. This lively L-shaped square is named after the massive Romanesque fortress-palace that overlooks it. A favorite meeting place of Florentines, the square is like an open-air museum of art with its numerous statues, including a copy of Michelangelo's sculpture of David. An ornate fountain features a large figure of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea. The square serves as a gateway to the Uffizi Gallery, which displays more of the city's art. • The Piazza della Signoria was once the center of the Politics of Florence. It is a square surrounded by wonderful buildings, including the Palazzo Vecchio and the medieval remnants. And in this square, there was a replica of the statue of David, and there were many statues of sculptures such as the equestrian statue of Cosimo I and the Fountain of Neptune.

  • Another pretty square with many statues located around the square. I believe our guide said these replicas were made for the peoples enjoyment. The statue of Neptune was under restoration during our visit and I couldn't help but notice when reviewing the previously posted photos taken from a certain angle that Neptune appears to have a unique feature other statues do not have.
  • My favorite sport in Florence! You can search for this restaurant with many lovely old man serving the people! You can get the best pasta and pizza and not to forget, ask for the tiramisu once you finish eating! I definitely will go back to that small place!
