Must see · Castle · Tourist Spot
Visit Tsuruga jo Castle to explore one of finest examples of traditional Japanese castles and a last refuge of the samurai. The castle suffered a turbulent history, ranging from natural disasters to sieges, which damaged its facade multiple times and led to many restorations. Today a concrete replica, rebuilt thanks to local enthusiasm, stands 34 m (111 ft) tall on its ancient foundation, complete with an elegant tiered tenshu (tower), reconstructed in 1965. Climb up the tower to reach the museum inside and the observation gallery on the top, offering panoramic views of the city. • Great. The castle with snow during winter just looked amazing. Joined a tour which include a visit to the castle. Visited the interior and castle and the view from the top of castle is just amazing. One also got to understand the history of the castle. The garden looked as good. Recommended.
  • The whole grounds here are beautiful, and I highly recommend a visit. There is a small fee for going inside the castle (which is also a museum); the view from the top was lovely, so I personally thought the fee was worth it, but as most of the information inside is in Japanese, visitors to Japan may decide to simply view the castle from the outside. My family and I just enjoyed being in the grounds, and spent more time here than intended.
