Architectural Buildings · Ruins · Art Museums
Facing Mutsu Bay on the northernmost tip of Honshu, Aomori is a bustling regional capital known for its fresh seafood and modern architecture. Also famous for its Nebuta Matsuri festival in summer time, the city attracts crowds of visitors carrying large, colorful lantern floats. The festival's own museum in the centre of town, as well as the interesting contemporary arts museum, forms part of most Aomori itineraries. An important transport hub, the port features a huge memorial ferry that used to link Aomori with Hakkodate. With lovely nature around, you can take a day trip to a lake in the mountains, an area that also features the world’s largest virgin forest of beech trees, which is protected by UNESCO. Create your own seafood donburi at the large fish market. Add Aomori and other destinations in Japan to your travel plans using our Japan travel route builder tool.
