Take a break from the bustle and noise of Tokyo in Hama Rikyu Gardens, a lush public space in Chuo. Surrounding a pond, the gardens housed the residence of Shoguns between the 17th and 19th centuries. Today, the park contains a teahouse in the middle of the pond, where visitors drink green tea and nibble on mochi, a traditional rice cake. Seek out a 300-year-old black pine tree, and, if you visit in early spring, the blooming cherry trees. Beautiful gardens and very peaceful in the heart of the city. Spent 3 hours wandering around enjoying the sunshine and the buildings in the park. Also took tea in the tea-house in the centre of the lake, this is well worth the time and money.

Quiet and serene, never gets too busy so it’s a welcome little space to just relax and spend some peaceful time. No particularly noteworthy buildings or monuments so I’d recommend this more for locals seeking a place to unwind rather than for tourists looking for photo opportunities.
