Considered the most important religious site in the area, Kushida Shrine dates back to 757 and features a thousand-year-old gingko tree as its shade. If you visit during mid-July, you'll have a chance to participate in the largest festival in Fukuoka, Yamakasa Gion Matsuri. During this fest, seven neighborhood teams race with giant kazariyama floats.     A historical shrine located not far from the Canal City mall. Enjoyed the atmosphere there as it is quite peaceful to walk around the shrine. There was a big giant float (kazariyama) placed at the shrine during my visit. It is humongous and I wonder how the people there can carry it and walk around during the festival, really impressive… Please drop by if you are touring around that area.
