Itsukushima Shrine, Hatsukaichi

4.5
A World Heritage-listed Shinto temple, Itsukushima Shrine remains best known for its red torii gate, "floating" on the surface of the Inland Sea. The shrine dates back to the 12th century and has undergone several reconstructions over the ages, most recently in the 16th century. Admire the scenic shrine building, which is at its most picturesque at high tide, when both the gate and the structure on stilts appear to be floating on the sea. Take a relaxing walk and explore the surroundings, or enjoy the view from a boat cruise. • Since I stayed on Miyajima Island, I visited at 1:00 pm, 18:00 pm, 23:00 pm, 7:00 am, 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. (I entered at 7:00 am and 11:00 am, and I was looking at other time from outside) from 6:30 am to the shrine. I went past seven. There were a couple of other groups, but during the day a long line of shooting spots were reserved. The early morning is recommended if you can take a picture. In addition, it is possible to re-enter if you have the stub and the day when confirming it to the clerk. Depending on the timing, you can enjoy both high and low tide.

  • This famous Tori does not surprise us that attracts such a quantity of tourism to the island of Miyajima. We were somewhat excepticos thinking that it would be "one more tourist" and the truth is that we were surprised for good, we were stuck watching it for a long time. We were lucky enough to spend the day there, so we saw it with Mary High and low tide, where walking to him to touch it and have it up close, imposing. If you have the chance, it deserves a lot of grief!
