Escape to a sanctuary of natural beauty at Koko-en Garden, a collection of Japanese gardens scattered across the grounds of Himeji Castle. Constructed in 1992, these nine gardens reflect different styles of the Edo Period and welcome visitors looking for a peaceful space to unwind. Spread across 3.5 hectares (8.6 acres), the park contains elegant bridges, flower and bamboo gardens, pristine waterfalls, and a ceremonial teahouse where you can enjoy a cup of traditionally brewed matcha or green tea. The gardens are accessed via a short walk from the castle's main entrance. Make Koko-en Garden a part of your Himeji vacation plans using our Himeji day trip planner.

  • Beautiful gardens with different themes. It is a very pleasant and relaxing walk. Would love to visit the tea house but my toddler was not in the right mood that we had to give it a miss. Must visit i...  more »
  • This is my first visit to Himeji, but last time I visited Himeji Castle just after the make-up was restored, and i visited only Himeji Castle because of my curiosity. However, i thought that there was a garden of the samurai residence next door, and the admission fee was stopped because it took. This time, himeji castle is only good to see from around in the first visit in several years, i examined it in advance in preparation for the good old garden, and came. It's a direct line from Tokyo, so we arrived after 15 o'clock. Because it was Sunday and the last day of the yukata festival, the roadside was full of young people. It arrived gradually while going through it. There were not many tourists in the park, so we were able to visit the park in a calm atmosphere. It proceeded to the junji street, it went around while taking a picture in various places, and the wild grass of \100 which was sold at the entrance entrance at the end of about one hour or more was purchased by the wife, and it left. There was a place with the theme of flowers, and I thought that it was even better to meet them when they were in full bloom.

  • Visited during spring time, the wind was so very cooling and relaxing. Add that to the beauty of the garden. It was so relaxing that I wanted to take a nap right in the garden! The stair climbing in Himeji Jo nearby helped to build the mood for nap taking too.
  • Beautiful Japanese garden with tea house inside. It's just a few minutes from Himeji Castle and also you can buy combined ticket for both places. There are several parts with water, bamboo trees etc. If you ever imagined Japanese garden this one is definitely meets your imagination. In the middle there is a tea house so for 500 yens you can get traditional tea with sweet.
