Hashigui Rock, Kushimoto-cho

Observe the legendary rock formations rising like jagged, geological shark fins from the water at Hashigui Rock. This odd composition extends in a straight line for a distance of 850 m (2,788 ft) towards the neighboring island. Low tide exposes the rocky seabed, allowing for up-close inspection of these monoliths--apparently caused by weathering over the ages. Folklore suggests a different tale, however, telling how the strange forms are the foundations of an ancient bridge, sabotaged by a fearsome monster named Amanojaku.
