Heian Shrine, Kyoto

4.1
Noted for its scarlet tori gates, Heian Shrine remains one of the most important Shinto sites in Kyoto. Built in 1895 to celebrate the city’s 1,100th anniversary, and relatively new in comparison to similar religious sites, the shrine was designed to resemble a smaller replica of the original Heian Palace. Step into the complex through the large, vividly colored gate, and explore its picturesque grounds. Roam the courtyards and Chinese-style buildings, or, for a small fee, enter the gardens that encircle a large pond, and stroll along stone paths lined by weeping cherry trees and maples. • I went to visit by chance, but because there was a circle of chi because it was just the 30th of this month, I did the ring of chi before i visited. I was grateful because the explanation of how to go around the circle of the chi was also posted together so that it was easy to understand even for the first time. Because it was evening, there were not many visitors and tourists, and i was able to spend time quietly.

  • I think that it is a visit since the school trip of the junior high school. I'm sure they're on a school trip, but I don't remember anything. Considering that it was a trip that I can't remember in later years, I wondered if it was meaningful. I came on foot from Higashiyama Subway Station, but there was a guide from the station and i was able to get there without any problems. There were many tourists from overseas, mainly from Asia. I omitted The Garden for the convenience of time. I will leave it next time.

  • One of the newer shrines in Kyoto. It's nice and large with very spacious grounds. Because of that it's not as overcrowded as many other places. Behind the shrine there's a beautiful large garden with ponds. However, the entrance fee to the gardens is 600 ¥ while the entrance to the shrine is free. But I highly recommend visiting the gardens too.
  • Beautiful shrine with a large, peaceful garden to walk around in in all seasons. You can also enjoy some simple snacks in the souvenir shop located next to the shrine.
