Commemorate one of human history's most tragic events at Nagasaki Peace Park, a memorial located at ground zero of the atomic bombing which occurred on August 9, 1945. The site, marked with a black pillar, lies 500 m (1,640 ft) below the point at which the second nuclear weapon dropped on Japan detonated, effectively ending World War II and obliterating the city. The memorial features a 10 m (33 ft) bronze statue, pointing skyward and dedicated to world peace. You'll find numerous plaques donated from countries around the planet, as well as a vault containing the names of the nearly 150,000 victims of the explosion. After the Bomb Museum this we as a nice stop to encourage a more positive frame of mind after the fairly depressing museum visit. A lot of statuary given as gifts from various countries. more »
No words to describe it, a must see place of interest for history enthusiasts. I left the site knowing a little more about the events of that day. I will comment on the cleanliness of the area and, very quiet of the time of visiting, huge crowd tourist crowds, better to come in the evening if you want a solo picture with the memorial statue.
A lovely park with nice ambience and several monuments that were gifts from many communities whether national or international to Nagasaki. It's good for a peaceful stroll and to visit the nearby atomic bomb museum.
