Okayama Castle, Okayama

3.5
Castle · Tourist Spot
Admire the striking black facade of Okayama Castle, also known as “Crow Castle.” Built in 1597, the castle’s main tower was destroyed in the 1945 allied bombing and had to be reconstructed, while two watch towers survived the war. Enjoy the view from the castle grounds, nestled on a small hilltop overlooking the Asahi River, and see the fish-shaped gargoyles on the roof of the main tower, gilded during the celebration of the castle’s 400th anniversary. • Okayama Castle is also known as the Crow Castle for its black exterior, which is nice for a change, but appeared to be less dark than expected. Visited just as the sun was setting so the castle reflected a golden colour. Decorated vending machines of the castle are always nice too.
  • You can get there really easily from Okayama station by the trum. There's my most favourite place in this moment of my experience! I would like to be back here in the next spring! Before on way to walk to Okayama castle, I recommend you to get an awesome juicy Hamburger by the shop on the corner. Let's have a great yummy time at the garden side Park!
