Experience one of Japan's finest landscaped gardens at Okayama Korakuen Garden, dating back to the 18th century. The site features traditional landscaping, streams, paths, a large pond, and hilltop lookout, but remains best known for its sprawling lawns. The garden additionally features views of the neighboring Okayama Castle. Through the years, the estate has been damaged by flooding and war, but historically accurate restoration returned it to its former glory after World War II. Okayama Korakuen Garden Reviews
A nice park for a 1-2 hours stroll. Bits of everything, eg waterfalls, ponds, rice fields, fruit trees etc. It is well kept, and there are a couple of nice viewing points where you get a good overview... more »
more »I went to Kenrokuen two years ago, but it was wonderful in a garden with a different taste. There are fresh streams on the vast land, lotus ponds, and restplaces. There was a couple who was taking a picture before the wedding, and it was possible to take such a wonderful location photography, and it became envious when it was happy people. It was a place where you can feel the wonderful sensibility of Japan.
A great place to visit and worth your time to walk and enjoy the environment. I recommend visiting the small hut in the pond for a tea ceremony, for only 800 yen its well worth the experience. Hand made cups. Very relaxing. Limited English but the hostess is friendly and will try her best. Some great photos can also be taken of the area. Lots of fish as well.
It's a nice place for a walk. Not much going on though... If you just want a nice park to stroll through, it's good. But the actual amount of historical information provided is quite slim. Maybe that's by design because they don't want to put signs all over the place?
