Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
Originally constructed for the private residence of "daimyo" (feudal lord) Naito in the Edo period, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden has served as a public park under the Ministry of the Environment since its reconstruction after World War II. Tour the park to see its three main sections: a traditional Japanese garden dotted with ponds intercepted by islands and bridges; a symmetrically planned French garden; and an English garden with sweeping lawns and cherry blossom trees. Stop by the greenhouse to inspect the permanent and special exhibits of tropical flowers. This is such a great place for a relaxing walk in the middle of Tokyo. Very close to busy Shinjuku station, one can find peace and tranquility at the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. The park is vast but it is divided into several smaller units, some more traditional Japanese while others with a strong European presence. The bridges and water features in the Asian gardens are relaxing and able to put you in a contemplative state. The roses in the European area are absolutely gorgeous. One can easily stay for hours here but if you are in a hurry, expect to spend about 90 minutes or so.

Very nice garden to visit and a great place for a family to relax! We had a blast walking along the scenic pathways and exploring the different areas. We really enjoyed the greenhouse with its wide variety of tropical plants. The roses were blooming when we visited and each was very unique and had its own characteristic. I personally liked the way the avenue of trees looked during our visit.
