Spend some time down by the sea at Miho Seacoast (Miho no Matsubara Beach), a picturesque and mythologized stretch of coast. The black sand beach has an otherworldly charm to it, backed by a large pine forest and dotted with pieces of driftwood in interesting shapes. Comb the beach to find washed-up treasures to take away with you, or go for a paddle in the waters that separate the beach from the famous mountainous area across the bay. According to local legend, an angel fell to the beach, losing her robe in the pines before it was returned to her by a local fisherman. Today, you'll see fishermen coming in with the day's catch of halibut and breem.
