In Teshima Art Museum, admire a single piece of artwork--an ethereal shell-like construction resembling a water droplet at the moment of landing. A vast, white, open space, devoid of pillars and decorations lends an airy feel, while the oval openings on the top allow the sound, light, and wind to interconnect. In addition, water emerges from the ground through the whole day, imitating the museum in miniature form. Contemplate in peace, listen to the soft sounds, and revel in the site's singularity. The cafe serves locally sourced food and drinks. In the souvenir shop, find original books and artwork. There you can see the very essence of Japan. It is to go and contemplate, enjoy the landscape and the simple, slow down and observe the movement. For an instant I was a piece of art that dances in the midst of silence.
You have to go there. Calling it a museum is irony- it is an installation, rather, the most minimalistic and fascinating space you will ever experience. more »
Really wonderful and unique experience. The Teshima Art Museum is one of the most interesting works I’ve visited, and allowed you to really feel connected to your surroundings and nature. Would definitely recommend for anyone in the area. Wasn’t allowed to take photographs inside, but even if we could, you really have to see it in real life to experience it fully. The cafe also had delicious donuts and soda using Teshima strawberries!!
Very special place. Mesmerising water movements. Fascinating from my perspective as an engineer also, the construction details were superb.
