Head to Soya Misaki, thought of as the northernmost point in the country. While a small uninhabited island offshore truly represents the northernmost point of Japan, the cape has historically claimed the title, and includes a memorial celebrating it. A number of other memorials highlight this coastal stretch, made in memory of different tragedies in the region, including the shooting down of a Korean Air flight in 1983, and the sinking of the USS Wahoo in October 1943. Put Soya Misaki and other Wakkanai attractions into our Wakkanai planning app, and watch your holiday take shape.
