The test site of the U.S. atomic bomb program, Bikini Atoll intrigues visitors with its untouched history. Shipwrecks surround the island because of atomic tests conducted between 1946 and 1958 that annihilated three islands. Today, the total area stretches 621.5 sq km (240 sq mi), with only 8.8 sq km (3.4 sq mi) of land where 5,400 people still reside.
