Situated on the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss, York has witnessed an abundance of major political events throughout its two millennia of existence.
On the 12th (Tue), see the interesting displays at York's Chocolate Story, delve into the distant past at York City Walls, then admire the landmark architecture of York Minster, then wander the streets of York Shambles, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: see the interesting displays at National Railway Museum, then steep yourself in history at York Cold War Bunker, then get engrossed in the history at York Castle Museum, and finally look for gifts at The Imaginarium - York.

Birmingham to York is an approximately 2-hour train ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. In September, daytime highs in York are 20°C, while nighttime lows are 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Thu) so you can catch the train to Birmingham.

Britain's second-largest city, Birmingham was known as the City of a Thousand Trades and the Workshop of the World in the Victorian era.
Head to Alain Rouveure Galleries and The Barnfor some retail therapy. Your inner history buff will appreciate Warwick Castle and Gloucester Cathedral.
