Park and National Palace of Pena, Sintra

4.3
The exotic Park and National Palace of Pena, a World Heritage Site known for its Romanticist architecture, is listed as one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. While the foundation of this palace dates back to a chapel in the Middle Ages, the current appearance is mostly the work of German architect Baron Wilhelm Ludwig von Eschwege. He mixed Neo-Gothic, Neo-Manueline, Neo-Islamic, and Neo-Renaissance styles to create this dramatic structure. Tour the palace to admire the building's restored red and yellow facade, interior design, and antique furniture. • The palace is really beautiful, but many cases of pickpockets happen there and those responsible for security says that nothing happens there and do not do much to help when necessary, probably not...  more »
  • It was quite foggy and cloudy when we saw the castle so no way to see the views. It’s weird and bold and worth the trip up. We took a taxi up but really enjoyed the walk down. Ask for directions...  more »

  • I really enjoyed my visit here but I was not happy about being charged for the garden since the garden is, for the most part, dead. Since it’s winter, a discount for that portion would be fantastic. The few roses that were alive were certainly beautiful. The walk through the castle was lovely. I especially loved the smoking room and would love to have it be mine. Also the pottery inside the main hall area was gorgeous. I would also like that to be mine ☺️
  • Do not panic if the surrounding environment is misty. Buy your ticket, the price is more expensive to visit the interior of the palace, go to the restaurant closest to the castle, order the dish of the day and wait for the time to pass. On leaving, the mist will have dispersed and you will have a stunning view. Then visit the interior of the palace. I recommend following this sequence because the weather can change at any time. If you arrive with clear skies, enjoy the view right away! It is a suggestion for you to enjoy the ride to the fullest. You can walk to the palace. But if you want to visit other attractions, opt for the available hop on hop off service. This will save you time and breath.
